Ruote indipendenti all’anteriore e ponte rigido posteriore rendono quest’auto molto simile all’architettura della britannica Lotus Seven.

A car of british conception, built by british men emigrated in Australia: this is the synthesis of the 1959 Nota Streamliner, here for sale.

Although very little known outside Australia, Nota was a very successful and interesting maker of single seater and sports cars, mainly designed for the numerous hill climbs and circuits down under. Based in Parramatta, NSW, an English engineer by the name of Guy Buckingham was the driving force and owner of the company, and he was good friends with both Colin Champman and John Cooper, his creations bear more than just a faint resemblance of these master's cars. The base of all Nota cars was a tubular steel space frame of very light yet very rigid 18-gauge composite tubing, designed in England by Buckingham and his associate, Mike Martin. The basic design was adopted to fit different power units and different types of drivers. Nota were very popular on the Australian race circuits in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Jack Wiffen - another expat who, before emigrating to Australia, worked for Bentley boy Tim Birkin and, even more importantly, some of the Bluebird projects of Sir Malcolm Campbell. The result is a very pretty "barchetta".

The engines available for this model were the 105 E unit from the Ford Anglia, the famous Coventry Climax engine and the BMC A-series engine with a displacement of 998 cc. This last engine is fitted to this car, with 90 hp: it is the same engine used on the Austin Healey Sprite (in this case, a 948) and later on the Mini.

Indipendent front suspensions and rear rigid axle make the Nota very similar to the original Lotus Seven. All the rest of the car is built according to the maximum simplicity: a very precise and rough gearbox, thin but embracing bucket seats, a simple dashboard with few gauges and a wood steering wheel.

It is believed that this car is the famous Chassis 28 - the Jeff Trenholme Streamliner - which is supported by a number of letters The car was entered in a number of events in the late 1950s in Australia on circuits such as Bathurst, Catalina and Warwick Farm. Jeff Trenholme is also reported to have held the Oran Park Cap record with this very car, sporting a Coventry Climax engine

The Streamliner has been imported to the EU from where it is believed to have had just 4 owners from new.

The current owner bought the car 12 years ago after a general service and different works of overhauling. It is now road registered in Italy and, more importantly, it is furnished with Australian CAMS papers, the CAMS Historic Vehicle Logbook (The same as the european HTP FIA) and a letter written by the son of Guy Buckingham, who certifies the authenticity of the car.

A very rare, interesting and competent entrant for many historic events such as Vernasca Silver Flag, La Leggenda di Bassano, Goodwood or Hillclimbs and track races, where it could be a good rival of the Lotus Seven.

The car could be seen in Bologna by appointment.
